www.newaygocountytourism.com or check out the River Valley House at: www.rivervalleyhouse.com/ About the Race:
This
adventure race will challenge the beginner as well as the experienced. All
mandatory control points will be marked on each team’s topo maps, all optional
CP’s will be given to each team during the mandatory race meeting using UTM
coordinates. Each team will be responsible for plotting their own optional UTM
coordinates. Teams will be required to navigate each stage using provided
topographical maps. Each team will be issued a passport that will be punched at
designated control points along the way. Each team is required to be self
sufficient, no support crews will be allowed on course. Entry is limited to the first 250 people.
Trekking / Orienteering:
The total
amount of trekking miles will be determined by team’s route choices and the
CP’s attained. The minimum of trekking miles will be approximately 10 miles. Adventure
racers can expect some night navigation, with terrain variations from swampy
lowlands to rolling hills to woodlands.
Knowing how to plot UTM coordinates is a must. Teams can expect significant off
– trail sections where navigation will be tested. Mandatory control points will
be pre – marked on topographical maps, optional control points will given
during the pre – race meeting as UTM coordinates.
Canoe:
Teams will
be paddling approximately 11 miles down a river located in Western Michigan. Paddles, PFDs, and lifejackets
will be supplied. Teams are welcome to bring their own PFDs and paddles. Teams or solo participants will not be allowed to supply
their own canoes or kayaks.
Mountain Bike:
The
mountain bike stage will be approximately 30 miles depending on route choices.
